Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Rougemont apple orchards, the Abbaye Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth is a contemplative community of monks following the Cistercian rule, a stricter form of the benedictine life.
The daily routine of the monks involves sung prayers at fixed intervals, with manual labour, study and private prayer making up the balance.
The Cistercian Abbey is a wonderful location for a silent directed retreat. We are bathed in an atmosphere of prayer from the moment we arrive and the austere lifestyle of the monks inspires us to enter into a time of deepening prayer.
Once you have experienced the peace of the monastery life, you may be reluctant to leave!

Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cistercian abbey. This monastic community is dedicated to prayer, work and silence.
Simple and comfortable, the rooms invite us into a life of simplicity that fosters detachment from the outside world.
The monks of the abbey welcome our participation during daily Eucharist and the chanted Office prayers.
The library is a comfortable space to do a little spiritual reading. Reading may nourish the retreat experience for certain persons. Note that the majority of books in the library are in French.
During your stay at the abbey, you are welcome to enjoy the public areas of the grounds and to walk throughout the extensive apple orchard.
Within the guest house the small chapel is available to guests at all times. Its austere simplicity fosters a one-on-one encounter with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Meals are taken in silence together in the guest refectory. Although a bit awkward for the first-timer, one soon begins to enjoy the "camaraderie of silence" this affords.
